A donor-advised fund (DAF) is a charitable giving vehicle sponsored by a public charity, such as the Greenville Community Foundation, that allows you to contribute to that charity and be eligible for an immediate tax deduction, and then to recommend grants over time to any IRS-qualified public charity. The donated funds can be invested for tax-free growth. Donors who give to CMM through donor-advised funds may be eligible to receive only incidental benefits, including museum admission and a discount at the Museum Store. Certain other benefits, including guest passes and special exhibition passes, may be withheld as a condition of the gift as they carry a tax implication for goods or services offered in exchange for your gift.

Assets generally accepted include:

  • Cash equivalents
  • Publicly traded securities
  • Certain restricted, controlled, or lock-up stock
  • Mutual fund shares
  • Private equity and hedge fund interests
  • Real estate

Note: This information is not intended as legal advice. Donor advisors should consult their DAF manager, tax advisors, and legal counsel to determine the tax treatment of their proposed contributions.

An honor or memorial gift is a meaningful way to recognize a family member or friend or to celebrate a special occasion while supporting our collection, providing educational programs for audiences of all ages, and bringing world-class artists to the CMM Music Theater. Gifts of $100 or more will be listed on CMM’s digital donor wall and your honoree will receive a special card.

CMM sponsors events from all over the country and territories across the globe, in addition to featuring pivotal eras, genres, and artists in musical history.
We would be happy to speak with you about individual event/exhibit sponsorship opportunities. For more information, contact Debra Strange, Development Director, at 864-884-2911 or
